Comment from peer-reviewer: I also noticed in the network diagram that some of the genes interacting with the electron carrier protein did not seem to be fully understood yet. I was just curious whether the team is planning to look into those further or if the focus will mostly be on the genes that are more closely linked to the muscleblind protein. Would be interesting to see how that turns out!

Thank you for your comment, it’s a good point but it wasn’t the main focus of our project, so we haven’t looked into it in depth. We didn’t plan to look into those genes further either.

Instead, we primarily focused on genes more closely linked to the muscleblind protein as you mentioned yourself (we didn’t make separated biological network visualization for those genes as we did with one of the genes below).

When you look at cyc-2.2 carrier protein, you can see interactions with many different genes at the same time (strings between nodes).

The point is that even if we know that this gene is interacting with many other genes, we don’t know yet how exactly it is doing it, and what are the consequences of these interactions and that’s what we wanted to highlight in our project and explain to auedience.

It was made with purpose to explain that even if we have tools, we cannot 100% indentify what causes the myotonic dystrophy and we can only make assumptions based on the data we have and the tools we use.
